Over mountains, through forests, across rivers, and under waterfalls, Yamabushido is your chance to be one of the first in the world to partake in a collection of authentic ascetic mountain practices under the guidance of Master Hoshino.

Curated especially for an international audience for the first time ever, Yamabushido is open to anyone, religious, non-religious, male, female, looking for the strength to overcome the challenges of tomorrow.

Master Fumihoro Hoshino. The host of Daishōbō, respectfully referred to as Hoshino-Sendatsu. He is a 13th generation ascetic guide and has led countless visitors and pilgrims through Dewa Sanzan in Yamagata, JAPAN

Yamabushido is founded upon strong principles of self-actualization. Realizing and embracing this is a key part of Yamabushido, as is perseverance and a lifelong commitment to learning. Your full potential is not a destination, it is something you improve upon every day to get better and better!

Yamabushido: Is it for You and What is it all About?

Yamabushido is a collection of training programs in the way of Shugendo, one of Japan’s most ancient and transformative practices. Our programs consist of authentic Yamabushi training, under the direction of a 13th generation Yamabushi master, Master Hoshino. The programs are held on some of Japan’s most sacred mountains, the Dewa Sanzan in Yamagata Prefecture, four hours north of Tokyo.

Yamabushido is a holistic traditional experience inclusive of the following activities:

  • Mantra recitations
  • Prayers for well-being and peace
  • Traditional accommodation in the pilgrim lodge Shugendo Shukubo
  • Zazen meditation
  • Jumping over fire
  • Waterfall Meditation
  • Night strolls
  • Sacred Dewa Sanzan hikes
  • Privileged visits to sacred shrines, some of which are inaccessible to the general public

The Shugendo tradition will be explained in-depth to participants.
